Flexible Demand: What is it?
As a way to protect and optimize our energy infrastructure, energy companies (utilities) across the country are implementing flexible demand programs (also called demand response or load flexibility) to shift energy consumption of devices connected to their system to align with grid conditions. These programs enable devices to shift, schedule, or curtail their energy use in response to signals like emission levels or overall grid stress. This dynamic adjustment helps balance electricity supply and demand.
Pentair Flexible Demand Compatibility
Flexible Demand utilizes energy efficient ‘smart’ devices with built-in automation that can receive grid signals and autonomously alter device energy usage without manual intervention, while maintaining comfort and operational reliability.
And if you’re using an IntelliFlo3 Variable Speed Pump or an IntelliCenter Pool Control System, you’re already ahead of the game. These ‘smart’ pool pumps and pool controllers are equipped with flexible demand capabilities and are revolutionizing how homeowners manage their pools and interact with the electrical grid.
Energy Consumption: Where your pool comes in.
During flexible demand ‘peak’ events, when electricity is expensive and/or the grid is stressed, your pump can automatically slow down or even pause, aligning with grid demand.
Likewise, during flexible demand ‘load up’ events, when renewable energy generation is abundant or electricity prices are low, your pump can automatically ramp up to utilize this available energy.
At the conclusion of both events, your pump will automatically adjust its operation to ensure proper filtration and chemical dispersion to maintain your pool’s overall cleanliness.
